NONGSTOIN: The retired Chief Engineer of PWD, S. Nongkynrih, who is also the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) candidate from Mawthadraishan constituency, has decided to step down to pave for another candidate.
Sources said that Nongkynrih took this decision due to some health problem. He was worried whether he could continue to move forward and join the fray as it might deteriorate his health condition.
According to sources, Nongkynrih therefore, decided to support the candidature of Blandingstar Warjri, who is the current MDC of Mawthadraishan.
The decision of Nongkynrih was a surprise for the PDF.
However, most of the HSPDP leaders joined the PDF after the decision was formulated.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, the leaders of PDF said that the people at first were shocked to learn that Nongkynrih quit PDF.
However, they are happy as Warjiri is the candidate of PDF for the constituency.
When asked about the present relation between Warjiri and the people of Mawthadraishan after he left the HSPDP to support the PDF, the leaders said “People have faith in him and he is the right person to contest Mawthadraishan seat.”
They further added that Warjiri is definitely going to win the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, HSPDP leader Damian Marshiangbai said that Warjiri left the party few months ago, adding that he rejected the party which was instrumental in electing him as MDC.
“The people already know what type of leader he really is and his decision to contest in the upcoming election will not affect the HSPDP party”, Marshiangbai said.
He further added that like other political parties, HSPDP also welcomed many new faces.
