SHILLONG: Streamlet Dkhar, a prominent Khasi writer, along with V Mohini Giri, Sushma Paul Berlia, Meenakshi Davar, Sarika Mehta, Shreyasi Singh, Priyha Gulati and Tiapokla Jamir received the ‘2nd India’s Women Enterprise Awards’ (InWENA), 2017 for their contributions as women in various fields at a ceremony held in New Delhi Institute of Management on Friday.
The award is instituted by Enertia Enframedia Pvt Ltd, Mars Media Resources, Falcon Media and Markenomy Foundation for India’s Women Enterprise for excellence.
Dkhar won the award in the category of “Woman Social Persona of the Decade- Grassroots impact- Social Sphere, North Eastern India and Promotion of Khasi Poetry, Drama, Art, Culture and Khasi language of Meghalaya in the National and International level”.
She expressed gratitude to the panel judges and said that this award will encourage her to “do more for the youth and women of the state and North-East”.
As an active member of the Khasi Authors’ Society, Dkhar said that the society will keep struggling to get the recognition of the Khasi language as other scheduled languages in the country were included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Neera Shatri, daughter in-law of Lal Bahadur Shastri, who was also presented with the “Life-Time Achievement Award”, graced the event as chief guest along with Vishwa Mohan Bansal, Aubrey Aloysius, Founder President LAMP Trust and a renowned filmmaker among other dignitaries.
