SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) president Ivanlumlang Marbaniang on Sunday said that new faces are all set to join the regional party which was formed in the last week of March this year.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Marbaniang said that supporters of different parties have expressed their inclination to join the party. The PDF will also tour all constituencies in a bid to gain a foothold in the political arena.
“We will go to Umsning, Sohiong, Rambrai, Mawkyrwat and many other constituencies”, he said, adding that Saturday’s meeting organised by PDF at Mawsynram garnered good response with over 4000 residents from Mawsynram joining the party.
Mawsynram is the constituency of KHADC chief and proposed leader of PDF, PN Syiem.
However, Syiem who was suspended from the Congress party for three years is yet to make his official entry into the party.
In its preparation for the 2018 Assembly polls, the party also constituted the zonal committee of Mawsynram Constituency.
The Mawsynram Block Congress Committee was dissolved last year following Syiem’s suspension.
Syiem was suspended for criticizing the style and functioning of the chief minister and the government.
He was also critical of the manner in which the government hurriedly passed the dual post bill that prevented MDCs from holding the post of MLAs.
