BJYM demands ouster of corrupt MUA govt led by Mukul Sangma

SHILLONG: Flaying the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA) of indulging corruption, the youth wing of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and his cabinet ministers.

 The BJYM staged a protest against the corrupt regime of the Congress government at Additional Secretariat parking lot on Wednesday.

“If Mukul (Sangma) is unable to serve the people well, we demand that he along with his Cabinet ministers should resign from today and give way to others who are yearning to serve the people and the state,” president of the BJYM, Egenstar Kurkalang told reporters.

He further said, “The youth of the state cannot tolerate the corruption that is rampant in every government department and the autocratic rule of the state government which also dictate its officers.”

“The autocratic rule of the state government has shaken the rights of the youth who deserved to get government jobs and the rights of the poor.”

Giving an account of anomalies in government functioning, Kurkalang pointed out the hike in electricity bills, youths who could not get admissions in various colleges as the condition of education sector was at the all-time low in the state.

He added that 900 teaching posts were still left vacant by the state government while scholarships of students from the year 2014 has not been released to the students.

“Due to such issues plaguing the state, we are prompted to come out on the streets to demand a change. We want a government that is more youth-friendly and serves the people well,” he said.

He added that the state need representatives that are honest with no inclination to corrupt and focuses more on developmental activities.
