SHILLONG: Officials from the Election Commission of India will visit the state in October to assess the poll preparedness and hold meetings with state election officials, deputy commissioners and police officials.
Chief electoral officer Frederick Kharkongor said on Wednesday that the purpose of the first visit of the central election officials was to assess how the state was prepared in terms of manpower, security and other initiatives.
The official said the election is mostly likely to be scheduled in February and before that, there will be two visits of the Election Commission officials.
Prior to this, the official said that on September 27, the special summary revision of the voters would be launched besides holding meeting with the state political parties.
On the same day, the election department will also launch the Meghalaya Election Atlas with the help of North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) to mainly assess the polling stations and nearby areas.
“We will be able to view various landmarks near the polling stations including hospitals, rivers, schools and other institutions and natural surroundings through the Meghalaya Election Atlas, which has been developed with the help of NESAC through Geographical Information System software”, Kharkongor said.
