TURA: The decision to grant bail to a criminal absconder in North Garo Hills has angered the general public, including social groups, given that the accused was yet to be arrested in a case in which a woman was duped of Rs 2.5lakh.
The accused, Siljohn N Sangma, was granted anticipatory bail by executive magistrate in Resubelpara, P K Boro, even though he has remained an absconder after abandoning a woman who is allegedly pregnant with his child.
The woman had filed a case against the accused over the relationship and also because he had duped her of Rs 2.5 lakh.
“How can someone on the run and with a police complaint get a bail,” questioned student leader Wilness Marak from North Garo Hills.
The decision of the magistrate to grant bail has not gone down well with some of the organizations that allege that the official had previously given bail to even a murder accused.
“Recently, the same magistrate had granted bail to a murder accused simply because the police charge sheet was three days late,” alleged Marak while demanding the separation of the judiciary from the executive in North Garo Hills.
The organizations are planning to meet the deputy commissioner and the district police chief to protest the granting of bail to a murder accused by the executive magistrate.
