SHILLONG: Several lower rank police men of the state have accused the higher officers, particularly those who are looking after training centers situated at different parts of the state, of harassment.
Some of the police men, who don’t want to be named, informed that during February to September they were sent to Garo Hills for training before being promoted to Lance Naiks and Naiks.
“The training was supposed to be completed just within 45 days, however, on reaching the Georagre training centre in Garo Hills they were deputed for non official duties for more than 6 months”, the sources informed.
They alleged that during the deputation to jungles either in Williamnagar or Shahlang for operations, neither travelling allowances nor risk allowances were provided to them.
They were also not allowed to take rest when they were sick and were forced to be present at the training ground.
“This is nothing but harassment and violation of human rights by our superior” said one of the police constables who had completed the training from Garo Hills and now waiting for the result before he will be promoted.
“This is happening in all training centres even at Mawiong and PTS (Police Training Scool). Those who are undergoing training at Mawiong and PTS were not sent for operations but the way the training authority treated us is inhumane”, he added
It was also informed that the training for the second batch started early last month. The training is for 45 days, but many have been sent now to Williamnagar in Garo Hills and Shahlang in West Khasi Hills for operations.
“This will take us for 6 months living in the jungles and only after six months or more they will call us to the training centre for 10 to 15 days’ training before they send us back to our respective places to resume our normal and daily duty”, the police personnel added.
In this context, they urged the top officials of the police department to look into the matter seriously for the betterment of the state police.
