TURA: Crimes against women and children continue unabated in the Garo Hills with another gruesome incident being reported of a 12-year-old girl being abducted and sexually assaulted in Kharkutta region of North Garo Hills on Friday morning.

The crime occurred when the young girl was heading to school from the village of Konchikol Apal in Rajasimla area of Kharkutta.

As the girl was passing through an isolated area, around 9 AM, a 31-year-old man from the locality identified as Sanjib Arengh grabbed her and took her to a secluded spot where he committed the crime.

He tried to pacify the victim by offering fifty rupees and warned her of dire consequences if she informed her family.

However, she was able to muster up courage and narrated her ordeal to her family prompting angry residents to launch a search for the accused, who had by then fled leaving behind his motorcycle.

Local organizations, including the Mother’s Union, Kharkutta Youth Organization and Rajasimla Youth Council are calling for the arrest and exemplary punishment for the accused.
