Police draw up elaborate security plan for Durga puja festival in  Shillong

SHILLONG: As Shillong city is preparing itself to celebrate the festive season of Durga puja, the East Khasi Hills police has started making elaborate security arrangements in the city and the district.

East Khasi Hills district SP, Davis N Marak informed that elaborate security arrangements would be put in place by the police in the city and other parts of the state during the festival.

He said that police personnel would be deployed in each and every Puja pandal in the city and in other parts of the district.

“The security arrangements will be there too for the protection of the idols and during the emersion day which is the last day of the festival,” he said.

Informing that other aspects of security have already been discussed with the district administration and Central Puja Committee (CPC), he   added that the installation of CCTV cameras in all the Puja pandals and the safety of the pandals  besides exit plans in case of an emergency situation has already been worked out.

When asked on the traffic arrangements, he informed that the police have chalked out a sub-plan for traffic deployment during the Puja festival across the state.

“We will also be deploying sector officers in various parts of the states who will in turn coordinate with volunteers of different Puja pandals in assisting police to regulate traffic and other security matters,” Marak said.
