Police yet to make breakthrough in CCTV damage case

SHILLONG: After the arrest of Mike Pakyntein on Friday in connection with the lobbing of a petrol bomb at the residence of West Shillong legislator Paul Lyngdoh, police are zeroing in on the suspects who broke the CCTV camera at the office of Congress party.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said on Saturday that the matter pertaining to the damage of the camera at the Congress office was under investigation and a case had been registered.
He said the police on Friday had gone to pick up one of the accused persons in connection with the crime, but he was not found.
Police have not seized the CCTV camera for probe even though the Congress leader, Mohendro Rapsang had submitted necessary evidence to the police about the incident.
Rapsang had lodged a complaint that on September 17 around 2 am, three miscreants were seen through the CCTV footage who were involved in damaging the CCTV camera which was installed at Lower Mawprem, Congress party office.
Meanwhile, in a clarification, Rapsang said that he has taken exception to his photograph appeared in the media on Saturday in relation to the arrest of Pakyntein, adding that this was an attempt to tarnish his image.
