RESUBELPARA: People of New Mongre (Mongre Songgital), North Garo Hills in a gathering on Saturday raised the long pending border dispute with Assam as their land is claimed by the neighbouring State.
The meeting was attended by Sordars, Laskar and Nokma of Resu A’king land along with conglomeration of NGOs of North Garo Hills .
The Nokma referred to the district council maps and order issued by Executive Member, Land and revenue GHADC Tura to substantiates his claim over the land.
The pressure groups, FAF, AAYF, GSU, FKGJP wanted both district administrations of Goalpara and the North Garo Hills to work together to solve the pending issue.
According to the residents, New Mongre was part of Garo Hills since the existence of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and the land belonged to Meghalaya since 1972.
While the village is under the boundary map of Resu A’king land, the forefathers of the New Mongre village mistakenly claimed themselves as citizens of Assam.
However, their descendents found out from the maps of Assam and Meghalaya that the area belongs to Meghalaya.
The meeting was chaired by Samuel Sangma, president of the Village Community.
According to citizens of the Village, they face problems when they approach the doctors for availing various certificates.
The lady doctor, DK Sangma refused to issue birth certificates and other official letters though the land patta was issued by GHADC in Tura and the EPIC cards by DC (election) Resubelpara, the villagers said.
According to the meeting, only few New Mongre residents, who have vested interest are claiming that they belonged to Assam, but majority who attended the public meeting reiterated that are under Resu A’king land.
GSU leader Walseng N Sangma said that the people will not give an inch of Garo Hills land to Assam.
FAF Leaders Jagir M Sangma wanted the matter to be solved by both the states.
Nokma of Resu A’king land, Manosh Mangsang Marak, who is also planning to contest the 2018 Assembly polls said that he had resigned from the post of Senior Geologists under Directorate of Mineral Resources to serve the people of his area as well as the A’king.
