TURA: Durga Puja festival, the largest celebration of the Hindu community here begins on Wednesday. Devotees from all over Garo Hills will flock to different Puja pandals to worship Goddess Durga and be a part of the festivities.
The Central Puja Committee (CPC) of Garo Hills, the apex coordinating body of all Durga Puja pandals as well as Hindu religious institutions have been doing hectic preparations since the beginning of this month for the smooth and peaceful celebration of the occasion.
In Tura, there are a total of 24 Puja pandals while the entire Garo Hills has around 110. The main attraction of this years’ celebration is the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Beldarpara Puja pandal and the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Milan Sangha Puja pandal.
The immersion of the idols is scheduled for September 30, the last day of the celebration where immersion of idols of Puja pandals under different Puja Committees will take place at different times as per their convenience.
In Tura, the immersion procession will begin at 2 pm from Tura Parade Ground and culminate at Babupara Bisharjan Ghat where the immersion of idols will begin.
As part of the festivities, a Dhak competition cum Cultural Programme is also being organized by the CPC on October 2 at the Tura Parade Ground. Artists featuring in SAREGAMAPA of Kolkatta have also been roped in to give a live performance during the cultural show.
