Petrol bomb hurled at Congress MDC’s vehicle
SHILLONG: Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on one Bolero vehicle (ML-04A-9002) belonging to Hermon Phawa, MDC (INC) of Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills on September 24 night. As a result, the vehicle was partially damaged. Police are making efforts to arrest the culprits.
250 new members join LJP
SHILLONG: The District Committee of the Lok Janshakti Party (LPJ), South West Khasi Hills district, organised a meeting on Saturday for the constitution of Mawkyrwat Constituency Committee and the District Committee of Women’s Cell where nearly 250 new members joined the Party. The meeting was chaired by the state president of the party in the presence of DK Gupta, state chief general secretary, Daross Ramsiej, state general secretary, Joycy Lyngdoh, state secretary, Denis Tynsiar, state president, Farmers Cell, and Redistar Lyngdoh, district president, South West Khasi Hills.
Postmaster position vacant in East Garo Hills
SHILLONG: The residents of Wageasi under Rongjeng Sub Post Office has lamented that the post of branch postmaster was lying vacant due to the demise of the previous post master. The residents even convened a meeting earlier and recommended that Tuhina R Marak should be the post master and her name was also recommended to the Superintendent of post and Telegraph, Meghalaya.
M-Tabs distribution date yet to be fixed
SHILLONG: The state government has informed that the distribution of the M-Tabs to class XII students of the state has not been fixed but it is expecting to distribute the gadgets in another three months time. The government is currently finalising the tendering process of last year’s scheme. It was informed that the government was not familiar with e-tendering so it had to be slow and careful while working out the e-tenders for the project. The scheme is designed to technologically facilitate students with innovative, personalised, and state of the art learning experience and the tabs are usually distributed to class XII students of all streams in the state under the Student Digital Learning Aid Scheme. Officials also informed that the content of the tabs have been improvised and scrutinised by the Directorate of Education and Research Training.
Regional meet of NE State Legal Services Authorities
SHILLONG: The member secretary of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) has informed that the regional meet of State Legal Services Authorities of North Eastern Region will be held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong at 9: 45 am on September 27. The meeting organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) and MSLSA will be inaugurated by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Judge, Supreme Court of India and the Executive Chairman, NLSA in presence of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya and Patron-in-Chief of MSLA and Justice Sudip Ranjan Sen, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya and Executive Chairman, MSLA and the Chief Justices and the Executive Chairmen of the North Eastern Region and distinguished guests.
Meeting convened on Heltone’s death anniversary
WILLIAMNAGAR: To commemorate the death anniversary of Heltone Marak, a meeting was held recently at the residence of Arun Marak in Williamnagar, who is a UDP candidate from Songsak, East Garo Hills.Party president Donkupar Roy and vice president Allantry Franklin Dkhar attended the meeting as chief guest and guest of honor respectively, in the presence of functionaries from Garo Hills, namely, Mahamsing Sangma, Utpal Arengh, Anand Marak, Sanjay Marak and others. The meeting chaired by Mahamsing Sangma had welcomed more than five hundred new members into the party fold. Roy while welcoming the new members exhorted the new circle office bearers to work diligently in seeking the mandate for the party. He recalled the time when late Heltone was the MLA and called upon the party workers to rekindle the same spirit with which they can bring victory to finish the job that Heltone had set out to do.
Waste management workshop organised
NONGSTOIN: The science stream of Nongstoiñ College along with the IQAC Cell in collaboration with Central Pollution Control Board, North-Eastern Zone, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, organised a one day ‘Waste management’ workshop on Saturday. BK Laitflang, Principal of the college, chaired the programme in the presence of Zawthanglien Changsan (Scientist ‘E’ and Regional Director of Central Pollution Control Board ) as the chief guest. The workshop was also attended by RK Gurung( Scientist ‘D’), and Wanaibor K. Jala as resource person among others. The workshop stressed mainly on how to segregate the liquid and solid waste from household.
Awareness programme on crime against women, children held
NONGPOH: In a bid to sensitise the general public on various schemes implemented by the government and protection of crimes against women, the Northeast India Committee on Relief & Development (NEICORD) organised a one-day workshop at Sajer Community Hall, Nongpoh on Monday. The programme also focused on various benefits for disabled persons being implemented by the government in the state under the Department of Social Welfare.Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, C. P Gotmare attended the occasion as chief guest while the Mission Director of State Resource Centre for Women from Social Welfare I Warjri and the general secretary of Meghalaya Parents Association for Disabled B Wankhar were the resource persons of the workshop.
