Samagra Swachhta held
SHILLONG: As part of the nationwide observance of Swachhta Hi Seva, the District Water and Sanitation Mission in collaboration with the PHE Department organised the Samagra Swachhta at Mattilang Park, Laitmynsaw village under Mylliem C&RD Block on Monday.
Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit graced the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the governor said that Swachh Bharat Mission reflects the desire of a common man to clean their surroundings to make it a more liveable place.
He also informed the gathering that the forthnight-long Swachhta Hi Seva campaign was launched by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at Ishwari Ganj village in Kanpur on September 15 and will culminate on October 2, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Others attending the programme were Local MDC T. Thangkhiew, Principal Secretary, PHE Department, D. P. Wahlang, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, PHE Department & Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Meghalaya, W. R. Lyngdoh and Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District & Chairman, DWSM, P. S. Dkhar, Rangbah Shnongs, students and teachers of various schools.
BSF organises cleaning drive
SHILLONG: Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier has initiated a 15-day long Swachh Bharat Abhiyan-Swachhta Hi Sewa along the international border as well as its in Headquarters at Umpling campus (Shillong), Sector Headquarters/Battalions Location at Dobasipara/Dhanakgre(Tura) and Mawpat (Shillong).
During this campaign, BSF carried out cleanliness drive with villagers of Nayabasti, Dharambasti, Bholaganj Market and Dhanakgre.
It also organised different activities like systematic waste disposal plan (separation of organic & inorganic waste), community awareness for cleanliness and safe disposal of e-Waste. Cleanliness tips were also uploaded on BSF MyApp and BSF website.
BSF Senior Secondary School, Umpling, also carried out a series of awareness programmes like ‘Swachh Sankalp Se Swachh Siddhi” followed by different activities.
