Headman can facilitate Aadhaar enrolment

SHILLONG: UIDAI has informed that local headmen or local community heads are to verify and distribute the enrolment form free of cost as decided by the state government.
In a clarification, the UIDAI RO Guwahati said that recently, it has been brought to the knowledge of UIDAI, that some unscrupulous persons were charging cash from residents in Meghalaya.
UIDAI said earlier press statement was issued to sensitise the residents that Aadhaar enrolment is free of cost.
“ Aadhaar enrolment is being done at each district and block office. To speed up the enrolment drive, Aadhaar enrolment is also being done on a camp mode at village-level”, the statement said, adding that the response from villages has been positive as the participation of local authorities including headmen has been proactive and commendable.
For the camp mode, to bring order and ensure the genuineness of the enrolee, participation of the local authorities like panchayat, sarpanch, headmen and others has been necessitated.
