Missing person
SHILLONG: One Mohamad Jubai (17 years) went missing from Rilang Children’s Home, Nongshilliang, Nongthymmai on May 22. He is the son of Abesamud and (L) Amina Begum. He has a dark complexion and black thin hair and is 159 cm tall. He was wearing a dark brown jacket and blue jeans. Anyone with information regarding the missing person is requested to contact the police at (0364) 2230402, 2537587, 2222277.

College week concludes
SHILLONG: The College of Teacher Education (PGT) concluded its “Vinceremo – together we’ll do something great” themed College week on Tuesday at the college premises. Speaking on the occasion, Ampareen Lyngdoh stated that teacher’s job is the noblest profession and lauded the college for its 52 years of service. She was optimistic that students will be benefitted through the institution which ensures that qualified teachers are put in place to teach the “information hungry generation of today.”

Wahumkhrah cleaning drive
SHILLONG: A programme for preservation of water sources and streams, ‘Save streams sans sully campaign was organised by the Synjuk Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS) in collaboration with Seng Samla Shnong Wahlyngkhat as part of its silver jubilee celebration on September 23. At the discussion program prior to the cleaning drive, the SSSS lamented on the fact the Wahumkhrah River is ‘lost due to the irresponsibility’ of the people. ‘‘We have lost our acclaimed Wahumkhrah River to our own folly, irresponsibility and deliberate ignorance, and now taking advantage of this dying river, some affluent and malafide elements of the society plunder away public money in the name of saving it, says the SSSS.

Meet condemns Block arson
SHILLONG: Joint emergent meeting of Jaiaw Umpohliew held at Jaiaw Laitdom Dorbar Shnong which constituted the Jaiaw Umpohliew Block Committee, Seng Kynthei JUBC and Youth wing JUBC met on Tuesday to condemn the incident where the car of the chairman of the Block was set on fire on Saturday. The meeting has urged the police department to investigate into the matter.

JSU expresses gratitude for getting new transformer
Shillong: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Mukhap Unit has expressed gratitude to Power Minister C Ymbon and the CEO of MeECL Jaintia Hills,SDO office where they have erected a new transformer at Dong Thymme under Mukhap village. The village was in darkness after the transformer got damaged.

Elephant herd attacks camp
SHILLONG: One BNC/714 Simchi Momin, camp Bajengdoba (NGH) was attacked by a wild elephant herd on September 24. While police were attempting to chase away the herd, a police personnel sustained injuries and was admitted at PHC Bajengdoba.

One drowns
SHILLONG: On September 23 at around 4.30 pm, Batista Khongwar (27) of Golf Link, Shillong drowned at Umkhen river near Diengpasoh (EKH).

Tawang yatra from November 19
SHILLONG: The Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch (BTSM) will undertake Tawang Yatra from November 19-24 to show China that Arunachal Pradesh belongs to India and not China. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Rajneesh Tyagi, general secretary of BTSM stated that Tibet has been under China’s control for a very long time and North East is under threat from China. Extending solidarity to Tibet, BTSM stated that Tawang belongs to India and opposed Chinese intrusion. The BTSM also urged the people to boycott Chinese goods and products in the market and purchase Indian based products.

Timber smuggling bid foiled by East Garo Hills police
TURA: A police patrolling party from East Garo Hills in the wee hours of Monday morning, managed to seize a consignment of timber which was being smuggled possibly to Assam by a gang of timber smugglers. According to Superintendent of Police RTG Momin, the patrol team had set up a check point at a location on the Jengjal-Samanda road when they saw a vehicle approaching from the Samanda side. The vehicle had stopped some 300 metres from the checkpoint on seeing the police team and when police rushed towards the vehicle, the occupants jumped out and fled into the jungle. The incident had taken place at around 3 am. Later, police were able to seize 15 pieces of eight feet long Sal logs along with the vehicle, a Tata DI bearing registration number AS 18 C- 1578.

Special summary revision of electoral rolls
SHILLONG: The Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, has informed the general public that the Election Commission of India has announced for the conduct of the special summary revision of electoral rolls with January 1, 2018 as the qualifying date. All citizens who will attain the age of 18 above as on January 1, 2018, can register themselves in the electoral roll. The programme will start from September 27 and final publication of electoral rolls will be on January 10, 2018. The District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills, has informed that the draft photo electoral rolls for the constituencies of Mawryngkneng, Pynthorumkhrah, Mawlai, East Shillong, North Shillong, West Shillong, South Shillong, Mylliem, Nongthymmai, Nongkrem, Sohiong, Mawphlang, Mawsynram, Pynursla and Mawkynrew have been prepared with reference to January 1, 2018 as qualifying date and in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.

Umsning CHC without doctor at night
SHILLONG: The Women Organisation of Ri Bhoi District (WORD) conducted a surprise inquiry at the Umsning CHC on Tuesday following reports of issues faced by the people of the area due to the irregularity in attendance of the doctor stationed at the health centre. WORD, under the leadership of general secretary, Reviewlett Kylla, visited the health centre and met with the patients and nurses. The patients told the women’s group that Dr. Marensha Lyngdoh had already left for her home in Shillong. About 10 people who had come to the facility were turned away due to absence of the doctor and were advised to purchase medicine from the pharmacy and a few were transferred to Nongpoh CHC. It was also reported that the people had gone to the health centre with the information that the doctor was on night shift which was scheduled to start from 5pm. However, on reaching the clinic, they found that she had already gone home. In attempt to get a statement from the nurses, WORD was in vain as the nurses did not have anything to say against their official.

BSF seizes cattle worth over Rs 36 lakh
Shillong: The BSF in its continued anti-cattle smuggling drive seized 64 cattle on Monday night. Acting on a tip off about suspected movement of cattle loaded trucks meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh in Baltoli (EKH), BSF troops carried out anti-cattle smuggling operation and seized 2 cattle loaded trucks along with 44 cattle from the area on Monday and Tuesday A cattle loaded truck was also intercepted by BSF troops deployed at Dawki (EKH) where 9 cattle were seized. The overall seizure by BSF troops was worth more than Rs 36 lakh.
