NONGPOH: The District & Sessions Court of Ri Bhoi district granted bail to ten members of the Khasi Students’ Union on Tuesday evening, four months after they were sent to the District Jail at Mawsyntai.
The KSU activists were arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack on the railway project at Ronghona, Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district on May 27 apart from various arson-related cases following the incident.
The ten members who were released on Tuesday include Ferdynald Kharkamni, president of North Khasi Hills District, Sonstar Nongkhlaw, assistant secretary, central body, Biangbor Paliar, organising secretary, central body, Jayand Sylliang, Sabathani Lyngdoh, Johny Nongrum, Augustine Nongbri, Oris Thabah, Bonifast Lyngkhoi and Raymond Jana.
Four members are from Shillong while the others are from Ri Bhoi district.
The activists were received by their family members and union leaders, including general secretary Donald Thabah, and former leaders like Daniel Khyriem, Auguster Jyrwa and others, outside the District Jail after their release.
