Special summary revision of poll rolls launched in Shillong

SHILLONG: The special summary   revision of electoral rolls with   reference to January 1, 2018 as qualifying date was launched here in Shillong on Wednesday at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

During the programme, Meghalaya Election Atlas, SVEEP Music video, VVPAT awareness video   and   Mission Unite report were also released.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Electoral officer, Meghalaya, FR Kharkongor said that the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was a system which would make the voter satisfied about his vote even as he added that the initiative was for the benefit of the voters.

Responding to queries of political parties, he said that    the number of polling stations in the state for the upcoming elections have been increased from   2771 to 3082,

On urban apathy to participate in polling, he said that the Election Commission in collaboration with political parties would urge the   urban voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their right to franchise

The Election Commission would have web casting facilities in many polling stations besides   static surveillance 24X7 in addition to SMS and phone monitoring.
