TURA: Hundreds of citizens in Tura and Williamnagar braved heavy rain to take part in the 12th anniversary service for the victims of September 30, 2005, police firing.
The service, organised by the 30th September Victims’ Solidarity Forum, was in memory of the nine “A’chik Matgriks (warriors)” who died in the firing.
“The people of Garo Hills remember the horrendous incident that took place on September 30 of 2005, which we deemed as ‘Black Friday’. It is one of the darkest days in the history of Garo Hills, undeletable and unforgettable… This day will always be remembered,” said general secretary of the forum Adinson Ch Momin.
In Tura, the initial venue of the programme at Chandmari field was changed due to rain and mourners later assembled in the district auditorium.
