SHILLONG: The central election committee of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the 2018 Assembly polls is likely to have its first meeting later this week.
NPP leader James Sangma said the committee was likely to sit on October 6 to discuss the party’s preparations for the elections.
He said the meeting would discuss the selection of candidates besides other election related matters.
According to the notification, while state president WR Kharlukhi will be the chairman of the committee, the members include Phidelia Toi, Roynath D Sangma, Denan T Sangma and Jied Kurbah.
NPP, which is seen as an alternative to the Congress in Garo Hills, is aiming at securing more seats in 2018 as the party has only two legislators, James Sangma and Nihim D Shira, in the current Assembly.
Asked when the leaders of other political parties were expected to join NPP, he said, “You should ask them.”
