Awareness programme on special rights for senior citizens held

TURA: An awareness programme to make senior citizens aware of their concessional rights, privileges and benefits was organized recently by the Tura Garo Senior Citizens Forum (TGSCF) in collaboration with the District Legal Aid Services Authority at District Auditorium in Tura.

It may be mentioned that while senior citizens the world over enjoy special rights and privileges the state government is yet to implement the same in Meghalaya.

The programme which marked the 27th year of International Day of Senior Citizens was graced by District Sessions Judge and Chairman of DLASA, A M Ripnar and Chief Judicial Magistrate of Tura, I Rymbui as chief guests and attended by retired government officials and prominent senior citizens.

A yoga exercise to strengthen bones and joints demonstrated by Dr A Shambu, Neurapathy, Tura Civil Hospital was the highlight of the programme.
