SHILLONG: The Congress is set to lose one more veteran leader with health minister Roshan Warjri deciding not to contest the 2018 Assembly elections from North Shillong.
Instead, WHD Syngkon, legal advisor to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, has been chosen by the North Shillong Block unit as its candidate.
Warjri was first elected in 1993 from the Hills People Union and was in the opposition for five years. She was re-elected in 1998 from UDP and was a Cabinet minister till December 2001.
Warjri did not seek re-election in 2003 and 2008 and again in 2013, she was re-elected from the newly delimited constituency of North Shillong.
The health minister announced her decision citing personal reasons at a meeting of the North Shillong Block held on Friday.
