SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India is keeping a tab on the number of officers, including police officials, who have not been transferred by the State Government for the last several years.
Sources said on Saturday that though political masters had not transferred the officials who have crossed more than three years in a place of posting, the Election Commission will have no other option but to remove them ahead of the polls.
According to sources, there are certain officials who had faced flak in the past for staying for more than six years but in vain as they had the blessings of certain politicians to continue in the same posting for years whereas some others who did not find favour with politicians were transferred frequently.
Recently, in view of elections, the concerned departments have prepared a list of officials to be transferred but they are yet to get the approval from higher-ups.
The intention was to transfer the officials well in advance so that they will be familiar with the districts months before the polls.
Among those who are on the list include West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi and Shillong (City) SP Vivek Syiem.
