SHILLONG: With an aim to revive the Congress party in Mawkynrew after its dissolution by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), the District Congress Committee, East Khasi Hills, has elected a new president for the Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee (MBCC).
The MBCC in a press statement issued here stated that Lamborskhem Kharpuri has been elected as new president of MBCC in which a party unit was also created with enrolment of 1600 people as members of the party. Many more are expected to join in an effort to strengthen the party in Mawkynrew constituency.
The new MBCC has termed the allegations of the axed president and functionaries of the MBCC as “baseless which only seeks to discourage the supporters of Congress.”
Kharpuri stated that the dissolution of District Congress Committee, East Khasi Hills was done in consultation with the MPCC wherein the former functionaries of the MBCC led by ER Thangkhiew were removed.
He claimed that the former Congress workers were not working hard to strengthen the party at the constituency before they disappeared without any communication to the MPCC.
