Lucknow:  Newly elected members of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) on Thursday unanimously demanded the elevation of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi as the party chief.
A resolution to this effect was moved at a UPCC meeting by the party’s state unit chief Raj Babbar and endorsed almost immediately.
UPCC delegates, Congress district and city Presidents, organisational Election Officer Kishore Upadhyaya, senior leaders M.A. Khan and Suresh Shetty were present, among others.
UPCC Spokesman Amarnath Agarwal said the Congress was duty-bound to support and strengthen Rahul Gandhi, “who had worked relentlessly to carry forward Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology and in taking the party and the nation forward”. (IANS)
