Prohibitory order
The Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner here has prohibited the manufacture, sale or use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB (AI) or 145 dB (C) pk at 4 meters distance from the point of bursting and for individual fire-crackers constituting the series (joined fire-crackers), the above mentioned limit be reduced by 5 log 10(N) dB, where number of crackers joined together. Pollution, both air and sound, increases in the city before Diwali.

Mock drill
The Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with the Directorate of Civil Defence & Home Guards and Fire & Emergency Services and Indian Red Cross Society will be conducting  Mock Drills on October 13 at Shillong Law College, Dhankheti at 2:30 pm and at MTC Building, Jail Road at 5:30 pm.
