SHILLONG: BJP national president Amit Shah will visit Shillong only after the Gujarat polls.
The Election Commission had on Thursday decided to hold the Himachal Pradesh polls on November 9 and hinted that voting will be held in Gujarat before the announcement of results in Himachal on December 18.
The term of Gujarat Assembly ends on January 22 next year while that of Himachal Pradesh on January 7.
On several occasions, the scheduled date fixed by Shah to visit Meghalaya was deferred as he was pre-occupied with polls in other states.
The state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh, said the matter was discussed in the extended core committee meeting of the party held in Guwahati on Friday.
“Since the party president will be busy due to the Gujarat polls, which may be held in the last week of November, he will visit Meghalaya sometime in December,” Lyngdoh said.
The inauguration of the party office will be held during the visit of Shah.
The meeting attended by BJP leaders Ram Madhav, Nalin Kohli and Himanta Biswa Sarma have decided to have booth sammelans for three regions, Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills sometime in November.
Besides, three Assam BJP leaders will meet in Laban on Saturday to hold polling booth sammelan.
The Guwahati meeting also discussed the need to work out the modalities to facilitate the entry of as many as seven legislators to the party fold.
“We are still in touch with some MLAs and we wanted them to join the party when our party president visits Shillong,” Lyngdoh said. Other decisions taken in the core committee meeting include the need to complete the organisational matters of the party and door-to-door visit and meeting church leaders.
“We will tell the people and the church leaders that we are with all sections as we are committed to upholding the Constitution,” Lyngdoh said.
The BJP leader said that only after the formation of the state election committee that the decisions related to the candidates will be made.
He said that the state election committee will be formed only in November last week after the completion of the organisational structure.
“We need to complete polling booth and morcha committees in all the 60 constituencies as we have completed only Mandals there,” he said.
