SHILLONG: The State Election Department has already enrolled over 17 lakh voters, data available on September 27 showed.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick R. Kharkongor told The Shillong Times that the target is to reach out to young voters so that “18+ voices turn to 18+ voters.”
The department has set a target to enroll 18 lakh electorate and 17,68,000 are already enlisted following a robust campaign on voting rights.
The State Election Department has launched ‘Mission Unite Campaign’ to target first-time voters between the age group of 18 and 21 years.
Kharkongor said the music video on Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) which is posted on Facebook has reached 1.7 lakh people, with over 60,000 views, almost 1900 likes, 1400 shares and at least 250 comments.
“There is an average of 7,000 new views everyday and it is expected to reach 1 lakh by end of October,” he added.
On the success of the SVEEP music video, Kharkongor said local cable continues to play Tarak Tak Tak with regular request from viewers.
On the other hand, asked on when the election observers will visit the state, he said it is only after the Election Commission announces the dates.
