TURA: The post mortem report of the two dead wild elephants that were recovered near the village of Jelajuripara in South West Garo Hills is yet to be out, official sources informed.

Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Hambert G Momin on Tuesday said that the official report is yet to be submitted to the authorities by the veterinary officer of the department.

“We are yet to ascertain the actual cause of death but we suspect that it was caused by electrocution. The detailed report will be out soon, possibly by tomorrow,” Momin said.

Momin also informed that an FIR regarding the incident has been filed at Mahendraganj Police Station.

On Monday morning, the carcasses of two dead wild elephants were found near the Indo-Bangla border. It appeared that the two elephants were going towards Bangladesh from the Indian side.

Interestingly, even before officials of the Wildlife Department got to the site of the incident, all four tusks from the elephants had been sawed off. Wildlife officials later recovered two tusk from the site of the incident and took possession of them.
