BSF seizes 218 cattle

Shillong: The troops of Border Security Force along with Meghalaya Police on October 18 and 19 once again showed their extra vigil on the international border in the area Nawkyrnot Phlangtyngur(Nayabazar T Junction -Nongjuri Axis) under Pynursla, about suspected movement of cattle loaded in trucks.
The joint team intercepted two vehicles while moving towards the border. As soon as the BSF team challenged them, the smugglers stopped the vehicles and tried to flee away but two of them were nabbed by the joint team. The two Indian cattle smugglers were later identified as Amos Nongrum (22yrs)from Saitbakon ,East Khasi Hills district and Pynbiand Sohkhlet (23 yrs) from Desaw village. BSF also seized 2 trucks along with 30 cattle worth 14 lakhs.
In another incident, on October 18, BSF troops deployed at Tuka, EKH seized one truck loaded with 8 cattle worth Rs 13.7 lakhs while being smuggled to Bangladesh. In another operation by BSF troops in the same area,  96 cattle worth Rs 11.5 lakhs were seized while proceeding towards Bangladesh. But the smugglers managed to flee from the spot taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation.
218 cattle were seized from the bordering areas of Meghalaya by BSF troops.
