SHILLONG: The South Centre East Circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has threatened to stop the upcoming election to the post of sordar (chief) of Raid Shabong in East Khasi Hills if the discrepancy detected in the voters’ list is not corrected.
The election is scheduled to be held on November 11. Over 4,000 eligible voters from 14 villages are all set to exercise their franchise to elect the new sordar after the post was lying vacant for past 10 months.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, KSU-SCEC president Innocent Khongstia said the union has detected at least 12 persons, whose names have appeared on the voters’ list of two different polling stations.
Also, the voters’ list obtained from the election committee revealed that the name of Jeffree Khonglam, also a candidate, was enrolled in two polling stations, Pynter and Nongshynrngang, under serial numbers 81 and 362, respectively.
While in Pynter, the candidate has given his name as JS Jeffree Khonglam without indicating the name of his parent, in Nongshyrngang, his name was only Jeffree Khonglam, son of Fly Khongwar.
“Similarly, the name of Sambor Khongbuh, who is the son of another candidate Kaleptor Khongdup, appeared on the voters’ list of Pynursla and Mawpran polling stations under serial numbers 192 and 337, respectively,” Khongstia said.
He said Khongdup’s brother-in-law identified as Imaya Khongbuh was also enrolled in Mawpran and Pynursla polling stations.
The NGO alleged that the name of Samuel Khongbuh, who is the secretary of Dong Pynursla cum chairman of Dorbar Siatbakon, also appeared in Pynursla and Siatbakon polling stations, he said.
