MAWKYRWAT: President of Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Ardent M. Basaiawmoit on Friday said that regional parties will form the government in 2018 and added that the newly floated Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) will find it difficult to win in the elections.
“With the alliance that we formed with the UDP, I am sure that the regional parties will come to power in 2018. It is time that we should rule by ourselves because we know the state and its people better than those parties from Delhi,” Basaiawmoit said, while speaking during the general meeting of the HSPDP at Mawkyrwat Dorbar Hall on Friday.
However, the HSPDP supremo said that even though people are talking a lot about the PDF, it will find it difficult to win the elections.
“We have seen in the past what had happened to the Peoples’ Democratic Movement (PDM) and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM). People were talking a lot and many were expected to win the elections, however the results went the other way,” Basaiawmoit added.
Basaiawmoit also pointed out that the Congress has failed on all fronts and many MLAs have left the party blaming the leadership.
He also said that BJP will not be able to win the polls in Meghalaya because it did not respect the sentiments of the people of the state.
With political parties claiming and giving numbers of what they are expected to win in the next Assembly elections, Basaiawmoit said, “I do not want to say that we will win these number of seats, but I can tell you that we are doing well and we have hope that we will win from all the constituencies we contest”.
Meanwhile, HSPDP MDC from Sohiong, Samlin Malngiang, while speaking during the meeting, said that the party has regained the love of the people in many constituencies in Khasi -Jaintia Hills.
“In Sohiong the party is very strong and I can tell you that we will defeat the Home Minister,” HSPDP MDC from Sohiong Samlin Malngiang said and urged the people of Mawkyrwat to support HSPDP and vote for Renik .
