SHILLONG:  Labour Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh has directed the Labour Commissioner to facilitate a meeting between the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited and   MeECL Progressive Workers to sort out the grievances of the employees of the corporation.

A delegation of the workers on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Ampareen Lyngdoh seeking her intervention into the matter

Mantiphrang Lyngdoh Kiri president of the Union told reporters that the Minister has forwarded the memorandum to the Labour Commissioner to arrange a meeting between the Union and the MeECL where the Union would express its grievances. However, the date of the meeting has not been fixed.

He also informed that the Union would review the issue after 20 days even as he added that black flag protest of the Union would continue in the districts.

The MPWU is opposing the authority’s move to make them sign a contract which, they alleged, is illegal and contains clauses that barred them from seeking permanent jobs with the corporation, deny earned leave benefit, PF, gratuity, health incentives and others. It is learnt that there are 1400 casual workers in the MeECL.
