SHILLONG: Disruptions marked the first day of Aadhaar enrolment at Jhalupara following which the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, PS Dkhar, directed for the continuation of the process from Thursday.
The Aadhaar enrolment process was supposed to start on Wednesday, Jhalupara Ward Commissioner Vikas Gupta said. “The public got in line but suddenly, some people came who claimed to be from the village council which is illegal in Shillong cantonment area as non-tribals cannot be headmen in Meghalaya or any village council in the cantonment area. They objected by saying that they did not give any authorisation.”
The annoyed ward commissioner said, “The whole day was wasted… We are doing a simple work in our locality but some people want political mileage especially the village council which they claimed to be in Jhalupara area.”
“They are working under MLA Sanbor Shullai and we came to know only after meeting in the evening. The people who came from the village council showed a form that it is from the MLA side,” he added.
Gupta, along with a group of people, went to meet the DC in the evening to resolve the matter.
