PHE MR workers to go on indefinite strike from Oct 27
TURA: Muster roll workers of the PHE department from Garo Hills have announced indefinite cease work from October 27 in view of the concerned department as well as the State government’s failure to fulfill their various demands. Earlier, the workers under the banner of the All Garo Hills Muster Roll Workers Association- PHE (AGHMRWA-PHE) had on October 5, served an ultimatum of 15 days for the government to fulfill their demand for service regularisation besides other demands. With the government failing to act despite the deadline expiring, the workers have decided to go ahead with the protest. A letter of intimation has been submitted to the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner copies of which, have also been given to the DCs and SPs of other Garo Hills districts as well as PHE authorities. The workers have also made an appeal to the authorities to look into their grievances so that the matter can be resolved peacefully.
Man held for raping 16-yr-old daughter six times
NONGSTOIN: A 40-year-old man has been arrested in West Khasi Hills for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter. Dobelsing L. Nonglait of Kynshi Mawria raped his daughter six times in the last three years and threatened her with dire consequences. The teenager’s ordeal that started in 2014 continued till July this year. However, on Tuesday, the girl narrated the incidents to her mother and relatives. When the villagers came to know about this, they apprehended Nonglait and handed him over to Mairang police. The police have registered a case under the POCSO Act.
FIR against cow thief in WKH
NONGSTOIN: A man in a West Khasi Hills village has lodged an FIR after three cows went missing from his cowshed. Orlandus Thyrniang (56) of Mawsura-Seinduli told in his complaint that he found out about the missing cattle on Tuesday morning. He went around the village following the hoof marks and on reaching the national highway some villagers told him that they had seen a man with cows on Monday night. Thyrniang then went to the slaughter house at Shahlang and found two of the three cows there. Later with the help of Shahlang village defence party (VDP) he learnt from a butcher, Ton Mawlong, that the cows were brought by Ores Lyngkhoi of Tiniang in the district. Mawlong and the VDP members helped Thyrniang find the accused who were later handed over to police. The cows have been rescued.
National Deworming Day
SHILLONG: The Government of Meghalaya under the Health & Family Welfare and National Health Mission is launching a fixed one-day school based programme to ensure intensive deworming coverage and targeted outreach in all districts on October 26. Children who could not be dewormed on Deworming Day, will be dewormed on mop-up day on October 31. Deworming Tablets – Albendazole – will be given free of cost to all children in the age group of 1 to 19 years of age in government schools and government aided schools and in Anganwadi Centers for out-of-school children. Children of the age group 1-2 years are given half a tablet of Albendazole (400mg), and those above 2 years are given 1 full tablet of Albendazole (400mg) to chew. The state Health Department and the National Health Mission urges all parents of children in the age group 1 to 19 years who have not been dewormed to come forward and avail the services provided for them.
Seminar on power conservation
SHILLONG: The Chief Engineer Shillong Zone under the aegis of HQ 101 Area will organise a seminar on Power Conservation Techniques: A Road Map to Green Environment on October 27, at the State Convention Centre, (Pinewood Hotel Annex) Shillong. The focus of the seminar will be on alternate sources of renewable energy and energy saving techniques through reduction in consumption /demand and use of innovative materials, design and techniques in projects. The seminar, being a technical event, will provide knowledge sharing platform for engineers, academicians, consultants and the industry, which will be useful towards energy conservation efforts of the country. The key focus area will be Enhanced Production of Energy Using Renewable Sources of Energy, Reduced Consumption and Energy Conservation Measures.Â
Girl missing
SHILLONG: A girl identified as Puja Kumari Shah (16), daughter of Prabhunath Sha, went missing from her residence in Lama Villa, Block-2 PK Mishra Compound, on August 1. In a statement released by the Superintendant of Police, the missing girl was described as having a dark complexion, oval shaped face, 5ft five inches height and she was last seen wearing a long pink dress. Unclaimed body
SHILLONG: On October 23 at 3.30 pm, one male body was found lying dead on the road side near Anjalee Parking lot. Inquest and other formalities have been observed and sent to the SDM and HO Civil Hospital for post mortem examination. The body is kept at the Civil Hospital morgue for identification and claiming. In a statement released by the Superintendant of Police, the unidentified body appears to be that of a thin 45-60 year old man, with a fair complexion and oval structured face. The deceased was found wearing a black leather jacket, long sleve camouflage shirt with black jean pants and white short and brown plastic sandals.
