Shylla, three others swell NPP rank

SHILLONG: After a brief stint with UDP and PDF, Nongkrem MDC H S Shylla will now join the National People’s Party (NPP).
The legislator confirmed his move from PDF to NPP and had also taken the form for primary membership. He will submit the form on Friday. “For 10 years, Nongkrem constituency has suffered a lot,” he told The Shillong Times and added that his supporters wanted him to join NPP because “they are confident that the party which has a strong base in Garo Hills and in Jaintia Hills will wield power in the 2018 elections”.
“If not absolute, NPP will become the single largest party,” Shylla predicted.
When asked as to when he resigned from the PDF, Shylla said that there is no need to resign officially from the PDF as they did not sign the primary membership form.
Earlier, Shylla won the MDC byelection on UDP ticket. However, he shifted allegiance and moved to the six-month-old People’s Democratic Front.
PDF has fielded Hilarius Pohshen as the candidate from Nongkrem constituency.
Meanwhile, in another boost to NPP, former JHADC MDC Hilarius Dkhar joined the party on Thursday. Former minister Oliver Neat Shyrmang and former president of Congress Shillong City Don Kupar War have already joined the party. Hillarius was named as the working president of the party in Jaintia Hills.
