SHILLONG: The Mizo Cardinal Choir conducted by Lalsangliana Ralte won the Grand Prix Gold medal among the Chamber Choir/Vocal Ensembles in the Children’s Choir section of the 4th Asia-Pacific Choir Games Colombo 2017 held in Colombo Sri Lanka from October 21-28.
In the Open Category, a choir has to win gold to get to the next level which is the Asia-Pacific level. They also have to win gold to get to the Grand Prix level. The Mizo Choir managed to get a gold ranking in all the three levels.
KC Lights of Kiddies Corner School Shillong, directed by Brian Wallang, won silver in the Open Competition (Childrens’ Choir) and therefore could not make it to the Asia-Pacific level or to the Grand Prix level.The Nagaland Chamber Choir directed by R Mhonroni Lotha got gold in the Open Competition in the Gospel, Spiritual, Music of Spirit and Faith categories. They also won gold in the Folklore a cappella section. In the next level, which is the Asia Pacific Champions Competition, Nagaland Chamber Choir managed only silver in both categories and could therefore not contest at the Grand Prix section.
Ibarisha Lyngdoh, the lead vocalist of the Shillong Chamber Choir who was one of the judges in the 4th Asia-Pacific Choir Games along with other eminent jury members, returned to Shillong on Sunday. Speaking to The Shillong Times, Ibarisha said it was a great experience to watch over 300 Choirs from different parts of the world perform and to judge them on merit. Speaking of the Choirs from the region Ibarisha said they did their best but Mizo Cardinal Show performed with extraordinary finesse which was what the jury members looked at.
