SHILLONG: The transfer of MCS and IAS officers will be delayed ahead of the polls with the Election Commission of India giving a direction to the government not to effect any change till the summary revision of voters’ rolls is over.
While police officials were transferred ahead of the polls, the government will have to wait for some more time before the transfer of civil officers is effected.
The deputy commissioners and the additional deputy commissioners function as election officers and hence the Election Commission did not want to disturb their ongoing duties.
A state government official said on Monday that though the transfer list is ready, the government will wait for some more time.
“However, we can seek exemption from the Election Commission for the transfer of certain officers,” the official added.
When contacted, chief electoral officer Frederick Kharkongor said there was a standing order of the Election Commission asking the government not to transfer government officers who are involved in enumeration and summary revision.
However, the state government can write to the Election Commission seeking exemption in cases where the transfer is necessary, he said.
