SHILLONG: Congress legislator AL Hek will meet his supporters this month to take a final decision on joining BJP.
There were media reports that Hek would join BJP at an appropriate time.
“I will take a decision on the matter after holding discussions with my supporters and leaders,” Hek said on Wednesday.
Hek, who had contested and won from BJP in 2008 from Pynthorumkhrah, had joined the Congress in 2009.
Prior to this, from 1998, Hek had contested the seat and won on BJP ticket.
Sources said the overall disenchantment of the people with the Congress has led many Congress legislators to leave the party.
Besides the decision of Congress veterans like RC Laloo and Roshan Warjri not to contest the upcoming polls, the plan of other five Congress legislators to quit has also affected the party in the run-up to the polls.
The five legislators are PN Syiem, Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar and Ngaitlang Dhar.
