Pay hike proposal ready for Cabinet nod

SHILLONG: State employees may have a reason to smile as the government is in the final stage of rolling out the Fifth Pay Commission.
“We are in the final stage and now I have to bring it to the Cabinet and decide,” Chief Minister Mukul said here on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Meghalaya government notified the empowered committee to examine the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission that submitted its report to the chief minister.
The government had constituted the Fifth Meghalaya Pay Commission with PJ Bazeley as chairman.
The questionnaire of the commission received responses from 77 federations, 31 groups /individuals, 22 administrative departments, 54 heads of departments, 31 district/subordinate offices and 10 offices of the deputy commissioners/sub-divisional officers.
It also received memoranda from 63 federations/associations, 52 other groups/individuals, three from administrative departments, 13 from heads of departments and three from district/subordinate offices.
The panel held 12 sessions to deliberate and decide upon all the issues in connection with its terms of reference.
