SHILLONG: With multiple dimensions in the High Court order on the education scam, legal counselors from the level of Advocate General to the lawyers who were dealing with the case are still studying the order before taking the next step.
The court cancelled the entire selection process of LP school teachers that was carried out in 2009-10 and ordered fresh advertisement evoking shock and surprise for both the government and the petitioners.
It also ordered a CBI inquiry against those who were involved in the scam besides asking the agency to carry out probe into all selection centres since the earlier CBI probe examined only five centres.
When contacted, Advocate General B.P Todi said he was still examining the 105-page report and hence could not comment anything further on the matter.
“I am occupied in going through the details of the report,” he said.
He, however, said the order of the High Court will have to be abided by the government.
K. Paul who had taken up the case on behalf of some tainted candidates said he was yet to read the order since it required time to go through the entire report.
The counsel for at least 200 tainted candidates, P. Yobin said the affected candidates had approached him that individually, but he was yet to take any decision for any appeal or review.
“I am still reading the certified copy of the report which was made available on Friday,” Yobin said.
When asked, School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak said on Friday that she would meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to discuss the future course of action.
“We have to study the report thoroughly before making any comments,” she said.
