TURA: The veneration of the Holy Sacrament took place in Tura on Sunday afternoon with thousands of Catholic faithful from the length and breadth of Garo Hills converging at the Sacred Heart Shrine in Chandmari to participate in the annual religious event.
Led by the Bishop of Tura Rt. Rev. Andrew Marak, the faithful took part in the religious procession that began from the shrine and moved through the localities of Wadanang, R C Road, Chandmari and K A Road before returning to the church with the Blessed Sacrament.
The Eucharist, known as the Blessed Sacrament, placed in a monstrance and held aloft by Bishop Andrew was carried in a decorated vehicle during the procession as the devotees said prayers and sang hymns.
The Eucharistic procession is also known as the Corpus Christi procession.
Started in the year 1246, the feast of Corpus Christi- or the body and blood of Christ,  symbolises man’s faith in Lord Jesus Christ.
The feast of the body and blood of the lord and the procession with the Blessed Sacrament celebrates God’s presence in our world and in our lives reminding us of our common pilgrimage to Heaven. It is a prayerful and edifying act of the church.
