SHILLONG: The third edition of Amur Falcon Festival will be held on November 10 and 11at Madan Saitstar, Tyrso village, Ri Bhoi organised by Tyrso Valley Wildlife Protection Society (TVWPS).

With the aim to preserve wildlife in the state, Alos Nongpoh, secretary of the society said, “The Amur Falcon have arrived in Tyrso village two weeks ago. We have informed the villagers not to disturb the birds.”

He added, “This year over a million of the Amur Falcon birds have arrived which is more than the number of birds arrived for the last year.”

The location of the festival is quite far from where the birds stay so as not to disturb the birds.

On the inflow of tourists during the festival, Nongpoh informed that in 2015-16, over 150 tourists have arrived in the state.

“The birds will stay for 35 days. The birds usually perched on trees and bamboos in an area spread over 50-60 acres,” he said.
