SHILLONG: The war of words between Rejaul Laskar and Hayithung Bill Lotha has picked up pace with the Congress minority leader on Tuesday reiterating his demand for debate on BJP’s policies for minorities and tribals.
In a statement to the media, Laskar said BJP ST Morcha leader Lotha is “developing cold feet over debate” because “he fears that such a debate will give me the opportunity to expose the anti-tribal and anti-minority policies of the BJP led NDA Government at the centre and of BJP ruled states”.
On Lotha’s repeated demand for Mukul Sangma joining the debate, Laskar said BJP was trying to distract the chief minister and put a brake on the development of Meghalaya, “one of the fastest growing states”.
On Lotha’s allegations of corruption, Laskar enumerated the scams involving BJP leaders.
“Has he heard about the Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh? Does he know that the then BJP Chief Minister of Karnataka Yediyurappa had to step down over allegations of corruption? Does he know the name of Reddy brothers of Karnataka? Does he know about Lalit Modi? Can he tell the people how the turnover of the Company of BJP President Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah increased by 16 thousand times in a single year after NDA came to power at the centre? Does he know about the former BJP President Bangaru Laxman who was caught in camera taking bribe? It is amusing to see a leader of a party like BJP to speak on corruption,” said Laskar.
