NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi police rescued a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the complaint regarding the girl’s disappearance was first lodged at Khliehriat police station.
However, based on specific inputs, Ri Bhoi police intercepted the Guwahati-bound tourist taxi the abductor had hired to take the girl at Byrnihat around 3:30 pm. The police thereafter arrested the kidnapper.
The Ri Bhoi police further said they are interrogating the abductor and that the girl would be handed over to her relatives after conducting the requisite formalities.
