SHILLONG/Nongpoh: The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) programme under the campaign, “connecting to serve’ was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Khasi Hills at Pynursla C & RD Block for the awareness programme on “Free Legal Aid services” on Friday. The programme was chaired by P. Khonglah, Block Development Officer, C&RD Block, Pynursla.
In a statement issued here, E. Kharumnuid, District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman of DLSA said that the programme was a success with a turnout of more than 100 participants who heard the speeches delivered by the resource persons and later interacted and shared their views and queries with respect to the topic.
The Legal Assistance Desk was also set up in the compound of the office of the Block Development Officer, Pynursla, C & RD Block. Later on, the staff proceeded to the Pynursla market for pasting posters with reference to free legal aid services.
Meanwhile in Nongpoh, the District Legal Service Authority, Ri Bhoi, Nongpoh, organised a car rally starting from the District and Sessions Judge Complex, Nongpoh via Iewmawlong-Umklai villages on Thursday.
The campaign aims to make aware to the weaker and marginalised sections of society of the existence of legal service institution and availability of free legal services, like the Legal Service Clinic, front offices and helpline numbers at the district level and to also identify people who are in need of legal assistance but does not have the resource to access the justice delivery system on account of economic disability.
