SHILLONG: Political parties here have slammed the state government in the wake of the High Court of Meghalaya making appointments of parliamentary secretaries illegal.
BJP Meghalaya president, Shibun Lyngdoh said the government appointed parliamentary secretaries as they only wanted to entertain their members and MLAs.
“It was misuse of government funds which is not good for the state and the country,” Lyngdoh said.
On the other hand, NPP leader James Sangma said they respect the verdict of the High Court.
Echoing similar views, UDP leader Bindo M Lanong said there has to be an approved law for the appointment of parliamentary secretaries.
The High Court on Thursday held invalid the state law providing for appointment of parliamentary secretaries in the state, but left it to the Governor to determine the disqualification of the post holders from the assembly.
