TURA: Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association- Garo Hills Region (MUPSTA-GHR) has resented the change made by government to school categories i.e. from government-aided category to ad hoc.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday the association questioned the reason behind the change in the category and sought an explanation whether it was a move by the government to close down all adhoc schools in the state and replace them with SSA schools.

Pointing out that the phrase, ‘equal pay for equal work’ has no significance with regard to teachers in the state the association alleged that SSA teachers enjoy better privileges than their counterparts in adhoc.

“Some of our demands which were discussed with government representatives and promised have been pending since September 2016. On the other hand, SSA teachers have been enjoying the same privilege since April 2016. How are Government Aided teachers inferior to SSA teachers that they are enjoying enhanced salary of different ranges,” they questioned.

The association further said that even in the U-DISE form, government aided schools come under ’13- Adhoc’ section which is not correct.

“This means that government-aided schools have already been abolished. We oppose the category change without our knowledge. Government-aided schools should be brought under the same category as before and not changed,” it demanded.
