TURA: The NEHU professor who was accused of sexually harassing students has been suspended and an inquiry has started against him.
The professor, SC Srivastava, is accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a student. He was the head of Department of Rural Development and Agriculture Production in Tura when the incident took place. He has since been replaced.
It was later revealed that the professor had harassed other girls too on Tura campus.
“He has been placed under suspension from last Thursday,” said Prof. G Singaiah, the pro vice-chancellor of NEHU Tura Campus when contacted by The Shillong Times.
The issue had triggered a series of protests by the university’s students’ union demanding action against the professor.
A delegation from the women’s cell at the university’s Shillong campus visited Tura campus and recorded the victim’s statement. More students had reportedly come forward to give statements again Srivastava.
The inquiry report on the sexual harassment case is expected to be out soon.
