MAWKYRWAT: Enbin K. Raswai, former MDC from Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills, is all set to join the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM).
The move was a major blow to the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) in the constituency. HSPDP was hoping to clinch the seat after the joining of former NPP candidate Renik L. Tongkhar.
“After thoroughly discussing the matter with my supporters, we have decided to leave the party which we have been associated with for a long time. I will now contest the next election from another party or as an independent candidate,” Raswai said.
The move comes after the party rejected ticket to Raswai and gave it to Renik instead.
Raswai, who is likely to be KHNAM’s face in the constituency, said he received offers from parties to contest as their candidate but he rejected them.
“Soon, we will hold a meeting with all the leaders and supporters to discuss KHNAM’s proposal,” Raswai said.
It may be mentioned that things did not go well within the HSPDP Mawkyrwat unit after the declaration of tickets for the next Assembly elections in which Renik was selected as the candidate.
